ALLIE: "AANR" has promoted nudist family values at its nudist resorts and clubs since 1931. Whatever the level of amenities offered, all clubs are expected to adhere to AANR’s principles and standards, honed from 79 years of experience. Our clubs foster a wholesome, nurturing environment for members and their families. With limited exceptions, parents are welcome to bring their children to AANR clubs. You can expect personnel who will provide competent answers to your questions and assist you with making the most of your family visit. AANR clubs provide great benefits to families - It’s true that you won’t know whether nude recreation is right for your family until you make that first trip. However, based on the experiences of many members over many years, we can tell you that participating in AANR clubs and activities is likely to draw your family closer together. The prime reason is that in taking visits together, you’re making a point to spend time together. Many club activities--from swimming to building sand castles to pitching horseshoes or enjoying an old-fashioned picnic--tend to be things you can do as a family. Natural nudists - There’s probably no better recommendation for nude recreation than the high spirits of children and families at AANR clubs. Even non-nudist parents know how difficult it can be to keep youngsters from running around the house naked. Kids usually take to our clubs like ducks to water, joyfully running, playing, and splashing without a stitch on. No sandy swimsuits to bog them down. Best of all, when it’s time to clean up, a bath is just a hop, skip, and a jump in the nearest lake or shower. We realize that it’s not uncommon for older children--even some raised in nudist homes--to prefer to remain clothed during awkward teenage years. Nude recreation incorporates a tacit respect for such natural development and boundaries. Some recommendations when visiting with your family:

CURRENT EVENTS!EARTH DAY !
The first Earth Day on April 22, 1970 began with a series of grass roots efforts conducted by citizens (in particular many college students) concerned over environmental issues. Thus, in honor of Earth Day 2012 (begun in the U.S. and now celebrated in 192 countries), the American Association for Nude Recreation – an organization long known for promoting the natural life and of encouraging its members young and old to serve as eco-conscious custodians of planet Earth -- is pleased to share with you five fun factoids and recommendations… 1. On Earth Day, or any day, don’t sit alone in front of the television or computer. The energy your home consumes with you in it through the use of electronics and lights can be substituted with spending time out on the town, congregating with friends or at an AANR member club. It's worth noting that most public areas use fluorescent bulbs, which are more efficient than those found in the average home. If you're not going to go out (or maybe after you do) there is really no better day for using vast amounts of candles. 2. Think about housekeeping or exercising in the nude, you sweat less, don’t dirty clothes and so can keep the air-conditioning bill down and the clothes washing down too. In the sunbelt, by turning up your central air conditioning thermostat one degree, fuel consumption can be cut by as much as 10%. 3. Take your clothes off at home and feel more comfortable free of restrictive clothing. You’ll also save laundry work this way. Typical electric clothes washers and dryers generate 5 pounds of CO2 per washer/dryer cycle. Given it’s used an average of 4 times a week, that’s 20 pounds a week, 80 a month, and 960 pounds of CO2 a year. The typical nudist family will use the washer and dryer about half that. Within the American Association for Nude Recreation membership roles, that is a collective savings of 24,000,000 pounds of CO2. 4. When you run your dishwasher, you produce approximately two pounds of CO2. Hand washing dishes is no better; that can use up to 15 gallons of heated water and that’s almost 3 pounds of CO2 per dish washing, so wait until the dishwasher is full to run it. Did you know many AANR resorts have restaurants equipped with energy saver dishwashers, that when coupled with efficient use reduces the washer’s carbon by 25%. 5. Need to get away? Take a Nakation, a clothing optional vacation. Remember, luggage kills fuel economy, and checking it on many airlines costs you too. Travel light on road trips too. An extra 100 pounds in your vehicle reduces your car’s fuel economy by 2%. Nakationers are able to pack less and travel more. And AANR-affiliated resorts and campgrounds are extremely affordable. With over 240 clubs, campgrounds and resorts to choose from, there is one close to you which will also save you fuel. Despite all of the damage caused to the environment by man, most of it is reversible. As conscientious custodians we can restore habitats and return species to them; clean rivers; renovate buildings; replenish the topsoil, replant forests. Nudists are closely connected to and get eagerly involved in the preservation of our nation’s beaches, parks and other natural resources and they are also committed to reducing their personal impact on the Earth’s resources. To find an AANR club near you and learn about upcoming environmental activities planned, please visit http://www.aanr.com/aanr-clubs/. About AANR: AANR is the credible voice of reason on issues relevant to nude recreation and Nakationing in appropriate settings, serving more than 52 million individuals who enjoy skinny- dipping and clothing-optional recreation throughout North America. For over 80 years AANR has advocated to protect the freedoms, the rights and choices of all people to participate in nude recreation, and encourages visitation to member clubs to experience the liberating effects and relaxation clothes-free recreation affords. Download the AANR iPhone application found in the Lifestyle category of the iTunes App Store at http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/aanrmobile or on the AANR website at http://www.aanr.com, and join the AANR community on Facebook. To learn more about nude recreation and clothes-free vacation opportunities, call 1-800-TRY-NUDE (879-6833); or visit www.aanr.com. AANR is your passport to fun, and can be had for less than the cost of a swimsuit. |
MARNA BILL OF RIGHTS!Nudists' Bill of Rights As law-abiding citizens who are friends of nudism, including many members of MARNA we proudly affirm that we have and are entitled to exercise the following rights. These are self-evident and based on the Constitutions of the United States and Canada, the laws of those countries, and their court rulings.

MARNA: Maryland Area Naturist Association was formed to give all in Baltimore and surrounding cities a chance to enjoy the benefits of the Clothes Free lifestyle. Naturism and nudism are more about living free than about being nude in front of others. Some nudists are only nude at home, or while vacationing, but never imagined there were SO many great community events in their own city, such as SWIMMING , YOGA, CAMPING , BOWLING, ROLLERSKATING, and other Health, Fitness, and Recreation Pursuits so close to Charm City! Others just don't wish to be restrained because society wrongly equates nudity with sex. We organize and/or attend EVENTS All year round! We are almost always clothing optional, unless the larger function we're attending or participating in prohibits it! Of course you'll fit in--our Group counts Jewish, Christian, Wiccan, Pagan members. Professions? We have Lawyers, Doctors, Taxi Drivers, Construction Workers, Students, Families and many others. We are truly a melting pot of friends and we always welcome more! We Welcome ALL to experience the joy and freedom of "Skinny Bowling/Dipping" indoor OR outdoor as the weather allows! See you at the swimming clubs, bowling alleys and at the MARNA EVENTS! Naturally!

NATURIST?? What is the difference between a "nudist" and a "naturist" ? Are nudism and naturism the same thing? In short the answer is no. There is a book written in 1933 called Among The Nudists, which is a first hand account from an American couple that visited Germany during the early years of the FKK movement. In the book it very clearly defines the difference. I'll try to summarize here, but I'd suggest reading the book, it's a good account that captures the core of this movement as a whole. OK--so, at its roots the FKK movement was about HEALTH. Sunshine was a good source of Vitamin D and being nude is simply a way to air out one's skin while getting the benefits of vitamin D. This was considered the "natural" way to live, therefore the term naturist. But since it was about HEALTH--naturists were also fairly strict vegetarians who believed in regular exercise, and were against habits like smoking and drinking alcohol. So naturism was truly a healthy lifestyle at its core, and the nudity was just a part of that. There were participants who couldn't get with the program, felt it was too much of a change. So for some they wanted to still eat meat, smoke their cigars and imbibe on the German beer. But it wasn't until the FKK movement made it to France that there was a collective change in attitudes that required a new title. Nackt is the German term for naked. But in France it is Nu, thus the term Nudism is from the French term. They coined the term and it has been that way ever since, representing those who enjoyed nudity, without the burden of the healthy lifestyle the Germans attached to it.
So-- NATURISTS are people who enjoy being naked as a part of an overall healthy lifestyle that includes vegetarianism, no smoking, no drinking, and regular exercise, embracing the benefits of nature. NUDISTS are people who enjoy being naked, and no lifestyle alterations beyond that. America is full of nudists. Naturists are pretty rare.
